Physical Fitness Program (PEP)
Check Out Our Fitness Lab, too!
Pacific Camps was designed to give children a safe and engaging way to spend their summer and before and after school hours and to give working parents, especially single mothers, affordable child care by staff who are committed to the welfare of children.
Currently, there are immense gaps in recreational services, fitness opportunities, and physical education classes for Ventura County’s lowest income families. The Active Life Project will increase the number of students participating in physical education activities and the percentage of those students that make progress toward state standards for physical education.
Not only are schools offering fewer physical activity opportunities, but there are also few affordable and accessible opportunities for children to access physical activities during non-school hours .
The camp’s physical education program (PEP), officially named Active Life Project, was designed to help children of working parents achieve California’s seven physical fitness challenge standards, which dovetail with six PEP program elements: 1) fitness education and assessment via individual assessments and tracking through fitness diaries), 2) various motor skills and fitness activities including organized physical education games and sports, rockwall climbing, weight training, dancing and cycling in the fitness lab, sports leagues, 3) classroom concepts like family health information, and CPR/First Aid, 4) social and cooperative skills including atmosphere of respect, and responsibility curriculum, 5) healthy eating habit and nutrition, and 6) professional development for Pacific Camps staff.
